Q2 revenue increased to Eur 191 million

FINANCIAL HIGHLIGHTS 2Q05:

  • Second quarter 2005 revenues increased to € 191 million. An increase of 33 percent compared with 2Q04 revenues of € 144 million and an increase of 8 percent compared with 1Q05 revenues of € 178 million.

  • On-net revenues for 2Q05 increased by 35 percent to € 147 million from 2Q04 on-net revenues of € 109 million, and increased by 10 percent from € 133 million in 1Q05.

  • In the second quarter of 2005, gross margin as a percentage of revenues was 56 percent, up from 53 percent in the same quarter of 2004 and equal to the first quarter of 2005.

  • Second quarter 2005 EBITDA was € 40 million compared with € 27 million in 2Q04 and € 38 million in 1Q05, up 48 percent and 5 percent respectively.

  • Versatel’s net result in 2Q05 is a positive of € 2 million compared with a net loss of € 4 million in the corresponding last year and a net loss of € 3 million in the previous quarter.

  • Capital expenditures (Capex) in 2Q05 amounted to € 67 million, compared with € 25 million in the second quarter of 2004 and € 62 million in the first quarter of 2005.

  • On June 30, 2005, Versatel had approximately € 253 million in cash on its balance sheet, compared with € 260 million at the end of 1Q05 and € 144 million at the end of 2Q04.

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS 2Q05:
  • On April 15, 2005, Versatel introduced its football product which was supported by a press conference and an extensive marketing campaign. On July 31, 2005, Versatel recorded approximately 20,000 orders for its football product, including approximately 19,000 over ADSL 2+ and approximately 1,000 over satellite. Approximately 62 percent of the ADSL 2+ orders came from new customers.

  • Versatel recorded net adds of approximately 2,000 in its residential DSL business in The Netherlands in the second quarter of 2005, bringing the total to approximately 172,000 as per June 30, 2005. Additionally, Versatel successfully enticed approximately 8,000 existing customers to migrate to higher-bandwith and higher-margin products.

  • In Germany, the number of on-net residential customers increased strongly with approximately 36,000 during 2Q05 to a total of approximately 293,000 of which approximately 177,000 are on DSL access. In the second quarter of 2005, DSL subscribers increased with approximately 37,000 compared to the first quarter of 2005.

  • In Belgium, the number of DSL customers increased by approximately 4,000 in 2Q05 to a total of approximately 52,000.

  • The total number of residential lines, both DSL and other on-net copper, increased by approximately 42,000 or 9 percent during 2Q05 to a total of approximately 517,000 on June 30, 2005.

  • In the second quarter of 2005 Versatel provisioned 152 new Corporate IP-VPN sites in The Netherlands to a total of 6,508 in The Netherlands, a sequential growth of 2.4 percent.

  • Versatel reiterates full year 2005 financial guidance, as well as customer targets for ADSL 2+ of 100,000 at the end of 2005 and 500,000 at the end of the 2007/2008 football season.
